Genealogy

Another hobby of mine is genealogy. Through the internet I have found my husband, Jim's, birth family. He was adopted at 10 months of age and only ten years ago was re-united with the brother and sister he never knew. We are still in the process of tracing his father Fred Shannon.
When Mr. "Shannon" married Jim's birth mother and fathered both Jim and his brother Bob, he used the name Fred Shannon. He left Blanche, Jim's mom, before he was born and as far as we know was never heard from again.
When we contacted the Cradle Society to find out more particulars about this gentleman they informed us that the name "Shannon" was an alias and that they had the "other name", but legally could not divulge it.
We have since succeeded in getting the adoption judge to open the court records and the name of the father, given by Blanche, when she signed the adoption papers was "Leonard Michaels". When we contacted The Cradle Society again, they said this was still not the name that they had, and we wrote another letter to the judge requesting that he open those files to us as well, which he refused to do. You can read about the search and the
reunion if you would like. The one titled, Together after 68 Years, is his.
With the help of relatives and several books we have compiled the genealogy on Jim's mother's family, which traces back to a cousin of George Washington and Edward I of England.
I have the genealogy software program Family Origins and have made a genealogy page for Jim and myself. His genealogy is linked here and my genealogy page is linked here if you are interested in looking at them. Our files are here as well as a GEDCOM to download each of them. I have traced my family back to Richard I of England and am still researching because as we all know no genealogy is ever finished. Who knows we just might be related! If you are researching the the Bartlett family mentioned in my gedcom, check out Roger Bartlett's page on Jesse Bartlett.here at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~bartlett/bartlett-jesse-homepage.htm
