Model A Fords

Thought I'd share some Model As that have passed through our lives. Beginning with Ma Green, a 1930 Sport Coupe that started David in the old car hobby. David used to slide down the fenders as a small child as the car was parked behind Ma Green's restaurant where Mr. Green left it when he died in '54. When I find them I'll share the photos of how she looked then. In many family photos you can see her in the background. My brothers started the restoration while Ma was still alive so that she could drive it again. She passed away during this time, but not before insuring that the title passed to my family (she didn't trust her relatives, with good reason we later found!). I have now owned Ma Green longer than Mr. Green did. Yes, I named the car in honor of her. It is only coincidence that the car is Kewanee and Elkpoint green, these are the colors I found under the two coats of house paint and one coat of automotive enamel, but I'm getting ahead of the story.

I started working on the car in 8th grade, after my brothers found girls and guitars. They took her apart & I had to figure out how to put it all back together. I had her running my senior year, and drove her to graduation, sans top and still with rust on the outside--although the undercarriage was all shiny by then! That was in '71 and it took until '73 to finish the paint & upholstery and another engine (sad story, major crack in the original engine. Present engine is only a few months different, and I have in storage an engine within 1,000 digits of the original! (and still have the original; maybe someday I can afford the crack repair).
