15. A Modern Parable
When Notire Basura , newly arrived from the West, first visited Mexico,
he was greatly pleased to find that his arrival had been anticipated and
welcomed, for along the roads and in many public places he found placards
reading "No Tire Basura"; along with receptacles dedicated to receiving
offerings in his name in which the local populace deposited offerings of
bits of food, items of clothing, and other useful items, along with paper
bags in which these could be transported.
Since the volume of offering was far beyond his need, He recommended
that it be spread in places where the poor could benefit; and to this day,
the poor of Mexico can be found seeking the necessaries of life among the
largess of Basura. |
