"Legends of the Sea" Updated Wednesday, April 22 Make sure your club's and friend's boats are signed up. Enter the decorated boat parade contest FREE online. Insure the information on your entry is correct for use by the USCG, VTS, picket boats, press releases, printed program, judging sheets, Club Of The Year spotters, trophy engraving, parade commentary, and mailing of Boat US Opening Day Banner, and participation plaques. Note your Parade Order Number! We'll use your number from last year to save signage, if we can. Note the description of the boat you are to follow in the parade order. Contact S/C George Neill at geor63@jps.net for corrections, then check this page out again for verification of changes. Go to the PICYA web site for Opening Day information, instructions, entry forms, etc. Print a copy of the instructions to take on the boat for use during the parade. Check for last minute changes to this page before departing (number and description of who you follow)! Maybe take your wireless laptop, PDA, or cell phone browser along. You can make a hard copy of the entries with your browser's print command. Participation plaques will be distributed to parade participants at the Opening Day Awards Dinner at Oyster Point Yacht Club on Monday, May 4. A plaque will be mailed to participants not represented. And THANKS for your interest and participation in the biggest and best boat parade of its kind in the world. Good luck in the judging. Boat safely. Have fun! |

(No Name) Sea Dory 22' AZ 1560 BK Power |
Will have blue and gold flags. This is vessel #2 of TIYC fleet. NARRATIVE: The 2nd Legend of Treasure Island is the base for the Pan AM Clipper Sea Planes. Pan Am planned to start land plane service over Alaska to Japan and China, and sent Lindbergh on a survey flight in 1930; however, the ongoing political upheaval in the Soviet Union and Japan made the route nonviable. Trippe then decided to start a service from San Francisco to Honolulu, and from there to Hong Kong and Auckland following existing steamship routes. After negotiating rights in 1934 to land at Pearl Harbor, Midway Island, Wake Island, Guam, and Subic Bay (Manila), Pan Am shipped $500,000 worth of aeronautical equipment westward in March 1935 and ran its first survey flight to Honolulu in April with a Sikorsky S-42 flying boat. The airline won the contract for a San Francisco-Canton mail route later that year, running its first commercial flight in a Martin M-130 on November 22 to massive media fanfare. Later, Pan Am used Boeing 314 flying boats for the Pacific route: in China, passengers could connect to domestic flights on the Pan Am-operated China National Aviation Corporation (CNAC) network. The Boeing 314s were also used on transatlantic routes starting in 1939. To compete with ocean liners, the airline offered first-class seats on such flights, and the style of flight crews became more formal. Instead of being leather-jacketed, silk-scarved airmail pilots, the crews of the "Clippers" wore naval-style uniforms and adopted a set procession when boarding the aircraft. The planes docked right by hanger one. During World War II most of the Clippers were pressed into the military, with Pan Am flight crews operating the aircraft under contract. During this era, Pan Am pioneered a new air route across western and central Africa to Iran, and in early 1942, the airline became the first to operate a route circumnavigating the globe. It was also during this period that Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was a Clipper pilot. He was aboard the Clipper Eclipse when it crashed in Syria on June 19, 1947. |

Final Call Catalina 30' CF 2726 SR Sail |
This vessel will have blue and gold flags flying along with NARRATIVE: Final Call represents the Naval Base legend of Treasure Island which was on Treasure Island from 1941-1966. Many service men traveled through Treasure Island embarking or debarking from overseas. Just below the American flag on the back stay, you will see the State of California Official Veterans Remembered Flag. The Flag was made official by a Joint Assembly and Senate Resolution 48 on June 5th 2006. The design of the Veterans Remembered Flag does all of the following: Depicts the founding of our nation through the 13 stars that emanate from the hoist of the flag and march to the large red star that represents our nation and the five branches of our country's military that defend her: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. The white star indicates a veteran's dedication to service. The blue star honors all men and women who have ever served in our country's military. The gold star memorializes those who fell defending our nation. The blue stripe that bears the title of the flag honors the loyalty of veterans to our nation, flag, and government. The green field represents the hallowed ground where all rest eternally. TIYC honors each of the Military branches with its individual flag flying below. TIYC is proud that we have members from all military branches within our ranks. Prize-COTY Eligible. |
