Prince of Wales Island is located in southern southeast Alaska. The island is the third largest in the United States behind the big island of Hawaii and Kodiak Island. We are a part of the Alexander Archipelago. The next land to the south is British Columbia, Canada. Beyond some smaller outlying islands to the west lies the open Pacific Ocean. Prince of Wales is approximately 140 miles long from north to south and averages about 30 miles wide from east to west. Travel to the island is by the Inter Island Ferry from Ketchikan or by floatplane. Alaska Airlines flies into Ketchikan, approximately 40 miles east of Prince of Wales. We are about 670 air miles northwest of Seattle. Craig, with a population of about 2,500, is the largest town on the island. Craig lies at 55.5 degrees north latitude and 133.1 degrees west longitude.
