April Days in the 70's with warmer soil temperatures, spring has arrived. Everything is good to buy.
Perform irrigation system maintenance. Detatch, mulch and lightly feed lawn. Control snails by hand-picking or with bait (do not use around young children or pets!). Spray apple and pear trees for codling moths mid-month. Start a compost pile. To prevent sunburn, paint trunks of young trees with white water-thinned latex paint. Plant annuals and perennials from transplants. Comos, sunflowers, and hollyhocks are easy to start from seed. Plant water lilies. Plant summer vegetables and herbs; hold off on sun-loving tomatoes, cucumber, and peppers until mid-month. Sow ornamental gourds.
