============================================================== Solex 10 estimate for Next Perihelion of C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) ============================================================== Solex 10 (by Aldo Vitagliano) http://chemistry.unina.it/~alvitagl/solex/ DE421 V!FG mode (Adaptive stepsize, 18-bit, full precision) *C/1995 O1 (this will load comet Hale-Bopp) / (Hide everything from search output but 0=Sun and E=C/1995 O1) YS 0 (Sun) 200000 4600 Kevin Heider (user:kheider) and Chesnok 12-18-2009 Hale Bopp last came to perihelion in 1997, and JPL lists the current orbital peroid for Hale Bopp as 2533 years. But Hale Bopp will come to perihelion before 4530 (1997+2533) because the planets will perturb (shorten) the semi-major axis and the orbital period of Hale Bopp. Solex shows Hale Bopp making its closest approach to the Sun near Christmas day 4385. Due to all the variables and possible perturbations from unknown bodies, this date should not be taken as exact. This is only a best estimate.
