The Separatists Go to Holland
by Maia Stamieszkin"I know, let's go to Holland!" shouted Edward Winslow. "Everybody can do anything they want there!" He was a nice, jolly looking man. He had a pointy brown beard and dark blue eyes.
A lot of the Separatists packed up their belongings. Some of the Separatists stayed behind in England because they thought it was a bad idea to go to Holland. And they were right. Since anybody could do whatever they wanted to do, there was drinking in public and swearing in Holland! The Separatists could not speak the Dutch language, and they had a hard time finding work. Also, the Separatists didn't like that their children were growing up to be Dutch!
"Goedenavond, vader!" said little Joseph Mullins to his father, William.
"What did you say?" asked Mr. Mullins.
"#%&@!!" yelled Mary Chilton.
"Don't say that!" snapped her father, James.
"We have to go back to England!" commanded William Brewster. "All of us do!" He was the church leader of the Separatists.
"I'm staying here!" screeched Mrs. Warren.
"Well I'm going!" cried Richard Warren. '
"That's fine with me, but my children are staying with me!" demanded Mrs. Warren.
So some of the families were left behind. Sadly, they boarded the ship Speedwell to go back to England.
