Thanksgiving Games
by Jackie MoranIt was the day of Thanksgiving. Everybody was having fun. They played games like bows and arrows, throwing the bar, and hard wrestling. They had contests like jumping, running, and racing. They played a game called stoolball with a leather ball filled with feathers. They also played a game called pillow war. Pillow war was a game for children where each kid gets a pillow and they stand on a high piece of wood. You try to knock the other person off the piece of wood with the pillow.
Myles Standish held a parade. One man blew the trumpet. One man played the drums. The soldiers marched and fired their guns.
Two boys played together. One was named Francis Billington. Francis was not a good boy. He got in a lot of trouble. One time on the way across the ocean he had almost set the Mayflower on fire with his brother John Jr.! The other boy was named Resolved White. He was a good boy, and was nice and pleasant. He liked to play games. His favorite game was pillow war. He liked hitting people with pillows. Resolved wore a black hat and a white shirt with black buttons.
"Hey, Resolved, do you want to watch the parade?" asked Francis.
"No, thank you," said Resolved. "But do you want to play pillow war?"
"Okay," answered Resolved.
So they went to the piece of wood that you stand on. They got pillows and they started fighting.
BANG! Resolved hit Francis right in the stomach.
"Ouch! That hurt!" screamed Francis.
"I'm sorry, but you're supposed to play hard," said Resolved.
BANG! Resolved hit Francis again. Francis flew off the piece of wood like a flying bird. He fell straight to the ground with a loud THUMP!
"I won! Yeah!" screamed Resolved.
"Let's play another game," said Francis.
"Okay," said Resolved. So Resolved ended up winning because he played harder than Francis.
The Thanksgiving games made Thanksgiving as fun as a huge circus.
