The Great Idea!
by Larry MackOne day William Bradford had a great idea. He thought the Separatists could solve their problems if they moved to the New World! He knew they were being treated badly in England, and thought maybe they could have a better life in a new land. He told his idea to Edward Winslow.
"Edward!" William said.
"WHAT?" Edward shouted.
"Shhh!" William whispered. "I want to tell you something. We should go to the New World!"
"Sure!" said Edward. So they went to the house of some businessmen who might be able to pay for the trip.
The house was made of wood and was very, very big. They went inside and there was gold and silver like the sun!
"Hey, Mr. Businessmen! " said William Bradford
"Yeah?" said one of the businessmen. He wore fancy clothes and a pointy hat. He had a cape and white hair. He wore shiny shoes. His voice was very, very low.
"Um .... could us Separatists move to the New World?" William asked.
"Okay, it's a deal, but only under one condition," one of the businessmen said. "We'll give you money for the ship and for supplies, but you have to work for us for seven years."
"Okay!" Edward said.
The next day, the Separatists started getting ready for a long journey.
