NOTES:

Notes for John Alexander STREALY :

[The following is an obituary of John Strealy written by J. C. Wesner]

John A. Strealy was born July 6th, 1842 at Maysville, Kentucky. He enlisted in the Union Army August 10th, 1862, serving under Captain Lewis N. Clark and Lieutenant Gus L. McCord, being honorably discharged September 17, 1863.

He was married November 12, 1872 to Miss Josie Burns, at Mount Olivet in Robinson County, Kentucky. To this union four daughters and five sons were born. They are, Mrs Eva Brock, of Henrietta, Texas; Mrs. Cora Wesner of Cordell, Okla.; Mrs. Maud Anderson of Ryan, Okla.; Mrs. Ethel Wilson of Douglas, Arizona; A. H. Strealy of Cordell, Okla.; Charley Strealy of Foss; Lou Strealy of Burkburnett, Texas; Will Strealy of Olney, Texas; and Earl Strealy of Cordell.

From Kentucky he moved to Collins county, Texas in the fall of 1879. He was baptized into the fellowship of the Church of Christ in June 1882 at Bethany in Collin county, Texas. Bro. R. C. Horn officiating.

He moved to Clayton county Texas in November, 1892 where he lived until January, 1921, when he with his wife moved to Cordell where their children could more conveniently care for them.

Mr. Strealy was a Deacon in the church at Buffalo Springs, Texas where he was esteemed as one of the pillars of the church. He was optomistic and progressive, a leader in church, school, social and political activities, always commanding the respect of all who knew him.

No better husband, father, grandfather, or father-in-law ever lived. He leaves 44 living grand children and 9 great-grand children. He often remarked that he was proud of every one of them. I am sure they were proud to honor him as husband, father, grand father, great-grand father and father-in-law.

At 5:15 o'clock, Saturday, August 19, 1922, the death angel called at the home of Grandpa Strealy to relieve him of his suffering for 15 months he had been confined to his bed helpless as a babe without even the power of speech to make known his wants. He had been almost helpless a year before caused by paralysis at various times and in various forms.

For several days he could not so much as raise a hand but as his spirit departed he opened his eyes and smiled raised his hands and reached as if he saw his Saviour coming and I believe he did. His wife and all his children were at his bedside giving all the comfortloving hands could offer.

Bro. G. A. W. Fleming of Cordell conducted funeral services at the Christian church at Cordell, at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The remains were laid to rest in the east cemetery at Cordell. All the children were present together with 33 of the 44 grand children and 3 of the 9 great grand children also many friends. Bro. Flemings remarks were sweet to the soul, consoling, and assuring and very highly esteemed by all the bereaved family.

To the decendents of this great man this marks an epoch in their life for many family reunions have celebrated at this home which is no more, but lets not forget to love and cheer poor old grand mother who is left to our care whose body and sight is failing. May the lord bless her and build up her body that she may yet enjoy many good days.

To the children and the great grand children lets prepare to have one more family reunion and that in the great beyond where is no separation, no sadness and where Jesus Christ our Saviour shall be our "Hostess."

Contributed by a loving son-in-law. J. C. Wesner.
